Dental Bonding
Smile Makeover Specialist
Do you have minor chips, stains, or gaps along your front teeth and are looking quickest, most inexpensive way to fix them? Dental bonding could be the answer.
If your visible teeth are cracked or chipped, some dentists would suggest a dental crown. But instead, dental bonding can be used for filling in cavities and gaps between teeth, as well as whitening and brightening your smile.
A Natural Appearance
Cosmetic dental bonding is also called resin bonding, because a tooth-colored resin is bonded to your tooth’s surface, sculpted into shape, then photo-cured. This resin is a composite of tiny glass particles. It can be mixed in any shade, so the color can be match perfectly to the color of your natural tooth. If you are thinking about having tooth whitening, it's important to have this done before you have your bonding, since the bonding material will whiten differently than your tooth enamel.
You should consider dental bonding if you have:
- Chipped or cracked teeth
- A decayed tooth (composite resins are used to fill cavities)
- Discolored teeth that don’t respond to whitening procedures
- Short teeth that you would like to lengthen
- Spaces between your teeth
- Jagged or misshapen teeth
- Silver fillings that you would like to hide
- Receding gums and you need to protect the exposed tooth’s root
The Process
Dental bonding is usually completed in just one dentist visit. Dr. Mrinal Bhatt will start by roughening your tooth and contouring its surface. Then she will apply an adhesive solution and the bonding material in its initial, putty-like form. A curing light will harden the composite resin, turning it into a strong, stain-resistant surface. Next she will smooth and polish the material to replicate the texture and transparency of your real tooth.
Cost-Effective
This procedure is less expensive and invasive than crowns and porcelain veneers. While bonding doesn’t last as long as crowns and veneers, bonding is better for your teeth and gums that amalgam (silver) fillings. Composite bonding will also expand like your tooth’s natural enamel, instead of the uncompromising metal fillings.
While no cosmetic dentistry procedure can replace proper oral hygiene, dental bonding can brighten and aesthetically enhance your smile quickly and effortlessly.
